Everest Sherpa Cultural Trek

The trekking for the exploration of the natural beauty and scenic diversity of the Everest region and the unique Sherpa culture begins after you land in the medieval capital city of Kathmandu. You arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and after completing the formalities in the immigration you shall be greeted by our representative. After that, you shall be transferred to the hotel of your stay in a private vehicle. Get rest to your jet-lagged and tired body and explore the surrounding areas if you are ready for it. This is the day for exploration of the magnificence of the ancient heritages and cultural masterpieces in the Kathmandu valley. The sightseeing shall take you to the heritage of national importance for Nepal and the heritages are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List. The star attractions of this sightseeing are the Hindu holy pilgrimage of Pashupatinath Temple with ornate carvings, historical temples, and other heritages, the Buddhist heritages of Boudhanath, and Swayambunath Stupas as well as the Royal palaces, courtyard, and temples in the Durbar Squares in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan. After exploring the astonishing glory of Nepal’s ancient heritages, we shall have an interaction with the trekking guide for the trek that shall begin the following day. This day shall begin with the flight to Lukla airport and end after trekking to the famous site of an overnight stay, the village of Phakding. We shall begin early from Kathmandu in a short and scenic flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. An adventure in itself, the flight takes us through the vicinity of marvelous and majestic Himalayas, over and above the lush green hills and valleys, and to the breathtaking landscape of the airport in Lukla. This flight will give trekkers a glimpse of the adventure and excitement ahead in the trek. After meeting with the remaining members of the trek in Lukla, we shall have an introductory trek to Phakding. Through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo, past pristine rivers, lakes, and the scenic landscape we reach the destination. Intermittently we have the breathtaking view of green valleys and snow-capped peaks overlooking the trail, encounter the train of yaks, fellow trekkers, and locals, cross several suspension bridges with prayer flags, get blessed with the Prayer stones and Mani walls, and get amused at the beauty of the landscape. A big and beautiful day for trekking waits for us today as we shall be heading to the famous Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest. The initial section of the trek is a relatively easy uphill trek with some rocks, gravel, and stones along the trail. Expect the train of yaks and locals passing by and the colorful and dense forest of rhododendrons and magnolias with an almost constant view of the marvelous and majestic mountains. After a couple of hours of trekking, we reach the settlement of Monjo (the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park) and then head to Jorsale. Heading further on the trail we encounter the famous Khumbu River (originating from the rather infamous Khumbu Glacier) and cross it on a suspension bridge that may give a feeling of vertigo to some, though you also have a view of Tabuche Mountain. With all switchback trails en route, we have a final steep climb of a couple of hours before reaching Namche Bazaar. Before reaching Namche we have a viewpoint that provides the first view of Everest in this entire trek. Welcomed by the gate, we reach the Namche Bazaar as the end of our trek for today. This is a relatively shorter trek from Namche Bazaar, where we head for the beautiful village of Khumjung. The trail shall pass through the other beautiful village of Khunde. Initially, we shall have an hour of the steep climb to the old airstrip of Syangboche. Continuing on and around a ridge has the view of Ama Dablam mountain and further ahead is the Everest View Hotel, famous for the panoramic view of Everest and other mountain peaks such as Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Nuptse. Ahead in the trail, we encounter a slow ascent to the village of Khunde, the village with green-roofed houses after exploring several Chortens, prayer flags, and prayer stones. The trail then turns eastwards to Khumjung, the largest village in Khumbu and at the foot of the sacred Khumbila Mountain. Overnight in Khumjung.

Today we shall head to the settlement of Thamo, which is halfway to the trek to the settlement of Thame. The trek shall start with the trek to Syangboche through the settlement of Khunde, a beautiful village with a terraced landscape. Further along the trail, we pass through the village of Phurte before which we turn right on the trail around a small Buddhist monastery. In a trail twisting and turning, we hike past several smaller streams, a couple of suspension bridges, across the torrential Bhote Koshi River and up on a steep rise before we reach the destination for today, Thamo. The main attraction of Thamo is Khari Gompa, the home of nuns from Tibet and led by a Rinpoche. With flowers along the route and the marvelous scenery, this section is a beautiful trek. Overnight in Thamo.

Today we have a short trek to the Thame village where we shall be spending a couple of days as a hub and exploring the surrounding areas. We trek today in the company of Bhote Koshi River and on the ridge that has beautiful scenery of the humongous mountains. Thamo is an old Sherpa village and we can also have a view of the Thame village. After an hour and a half trek from Thamo, we reach the destination for today, the Thame village. Intermittently we move past the powerhouse and across smaller streams, temples, gompas, prayer flags, and prayer stones. After reaching Thame we shall explore the famous Thame Gompa, which lies a little ahead of the settlement of Thame. This monastery is a 17th-century monastery that provides spectacular views of the surrounding areas and the snow-capped mountains. Overnight in Thame.

Today we shall explore one of the surrounding settlements and other spots near the Thame, the Khure Kharka. This day hike to the Khure Kharka starts with a short walk to the junction wherein the trail to Sunder peak, the Thyangbo, and to the Namche meet. We move past the small Chorten and trek along the trail parallel to the Thame river on the right. Passing through the Gokpuche we finally reach the Khure Kharka at 4230m. This lies before the Thyangbo glacier and the Thyangbo peak. After exploring the surroundings and marveling at the view, we trek back to Thame after a long trek. Overnight in Thame.

This is a relatively shorter trek for exploration around the Thame village. The trek to Kyaro Gompa goes northwest of the Thame village and along the Bhote Koshi River in the direction of the source of this perennial river. Intermittently we pass through Thambuteng and cross a small bridge before we reach the vicinity of the Gompa. Parting away from the main trail we join a minor trail and with some trek, in a slow and gradual fashion we reach Kyaro Gompa. We explore the ancient gompa and observe the ornate hangings as well as get blessed with the Lama. After this hike, we trek back to the hotel of our stay in Thame. Overnight in Thame.

After spending a couple of days in the beautiful settlement of Thame we shall now trek back to the hub of Namche Bazaar marking the return trip towards the completion of the trek. In a relatively easy trek, we leave Thame and trek along the Bhote Koshi River and pass through the settlements of Thamo and on the same trail that led us to Thame a couple of days ago. Crossing some suspension bridges, monasteries and Chortens, smaller hamlets, and a view of mountains to the far we reach the buzzing city of Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

This trek marks the end of the enriching trek in the Everest region. The trek passes through the high suspension bridges, the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi Rivers near Larja Dobhan, the gateway of the national park at Monjo, dense forests and diverse varieties of vegetations, Mani stones, and prayer wheels, and many more we reach to the settlement of Lukla. After we reach the Lukla we shall pack our bags for our return to Kathmandu. Intermittently we shall also move past summer settlements, viewpoints that provide an opportunity to marvel at the beauty of the landscape and interact with the unique settlements en route that give us an insight into their culture and traditions. This is the return flight to the Kathmandu valley after an exciting and adventurous trek in the Everest region. We shall start early for the flight as the afternoon brings uncertainty about the flights being conducted. The scenic and short flight provide views of lofty mountains, green hills and lush valleys, terraced fields, and diverse landscapes. The attraction provided by these sights is as enchanting as it was on the initial flight to Lukla. After landing in the domestic terminal of Tribhuwan International Airport we shall move to the hotel of your stay. You may go for some souvenir shopping and explore the surrounding areas of the hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

The trek officially comes to an end. We shall transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport at least three hours prior to the scheduled flight to your respective onward destinations. If time permits you may go for some last-minute shopping and engage in any activity if booked with us.
